How is the group result counted?
Every ballot counts. The list's own counting method turns them into one group result, and you can compare other methods on the Scoreboard.
The group result is the order the whole group ends up with. It counts every member's ballot, also the ones you are not allowed to see.
Ranking lists
Each list has its own counting method. A new list uses Points per place: on a list of 10 items, first place on a ballot gets 10 points, second place 9, and so on down to 1 point for the last place. The points of all ballots add up, and the item with the most points comes first.
One ballot is enough for a first result. Every new ballot can change the order, so an early result can still move.
Compare the methods
TopX can count the same ballots in three ways:
- Points per place: the points described above.
- Simple order: each ballot counts in its plain order, with the same step between every two places.
- Top-weighted: the top of each ballot counts much more than the rest, so clear favourites stand out.
To compare them:
- Open the list and switch to the Scoreboard, or select Compare under the group result on the Ladder.
- Select Group in the table header to show a column for each method.
- Select the small info icon next to a method for its explanation.
Under the group result, TopX tells you whether the methods agree on the top three.
Point-scale lists
A point-scale list has no counting method to choose. The group score of an item is the average of everyone's scores, shown with one decimal.
